My Canondale M500 project

Retro Newbie
Hi this is my canondale M500, id be interested to see what other people have done with this frame...its a very popular bike with everyone whos had a go on it

Im not happy with the bar and stem which i want to fix next, any recommendations welcome, i want a shorter stem and flat bar

Bar and stem are easy enough to swap and widely available through places like the classifieds on here, retro MTB trading pages on Facebook (if keeping all the components period to the bike is important to you, there's no law which says you have to) eBay or online bike shops such as Chain Reaction or Wiggle. You're looking for a 1/18th (also called 1.125) stem and a 25.4mm diameter handlebar. I can't quite make out your existing handlebar from zooming in on your pic, but it looks to be an X-Lite X-Country. If so, and providing it is in good condition, you should have no trouble selling it on and covering a decent amount of the cost of your replacements.

Thankyou for that, yes the bar is an x-lite and ill get a picture up of the stem, it looks like the original coda one that would have come with the bike, it just looks a bit silly with the riser bars.

Im putting together a bike for my eldest son so ill see if the x-lite bar suits him otherwise ill be getting rid of it with all the other bits ive been hoarding.

This suspension frame is the one ill be working on for my boy next...
