My Bontrager just died!

The driveside dropout has snapped resulting in the mech hitting the spokes and the wheel dropping out. Luckily on an uphill so no damage to me! It's a vertical dropout double seatstay tubed model from the early nineties (with front mech roller braxe on). Anyone had a similar problem with a similar vintage Bonty frame? Is it repairable? Even warranteeable? This one has never been run as a singlespeed so it can't have been that... Damn. I'm now stuck in Helsinki with ace riding conditions, but about 1000 miles from the rest of my bikes and with a dropout to repair, having virtually no Finnish language skills. Ho hum.

i should imagine a decent framebuilder would have not too many issues sorting you out.

there are a few resident finns on here - i'm sure one will be along soon to help you out with local knowledge
 
plymton cycles (outshirts of plymouth) had a few bontrager dropouts break BITD. always weird to be riding behind some1 & there back wheel suddenly folds sideways :shock:
 
VERY fixable by a local frame builder.*

*clean the frame and carry lots of choccy Hobnobs.

sorry to contradict you but he shouldn't under any circumstances get it welded by a local welder. Non-frame building welders are certified to repair BIG ARSE steel structures like girders, car sub frames and Raleigh Mustangs. Trouble is, give 'em a delicate, spindly bit of Columbus steel and they'll cut straight through it.
 
:LOL: im a certified welder i could exact a repair on any thickness of steel that was presented to me, as long as they are certified by some regulating body they will be able to repair without causing damage to surrounding area. Then it can be ground down and sorted more prettily at a later date. Im not saying i would recommend this normally but he sounds desperate!

Billinjah, did you read last months singletrack? In particular the interview with scott nicol and his opinion on certified welders?
