My bikes.

I find that most department store bikes even today, over here at least, are decent value for money if you just need something that rides.

They wouldn't be able to sell bikes if they didn't reliably do what they needed to do, they'd be ruined, so folks that keep slandering even modern department store bikes are usually very misguided. That isn't to say I think the quality of today compares to what you've got there, that's a different class - it's got character too, which is something that you don't get for cheaps anymore.
Carrera, Boardman, Pendleton all good bikes. The boardmans seem very well thought of.

Thanks mate :) This is in the process of an old man triple conversion with period RX100 rear mech and RSX chainset and front mech. I've three 708 tubed bikes and it is a great tubeset. Edit the picture you posted has gone?
This might be the weird jpeg disappearing act I've seen happen before in conversations and also others mentioning them being there one minute, then gone another. Re-uploaded it for now, we'll see what happens and if it will stay put. Didn't resize it this time and took off (4) in the file name incase that has any impact?!* EDIT... just done a screen grab of the original jpeg as that disappeared too...

Picked this Fred Dean up yesterday, appears very nicely made. Crisp shore lines and nice sharp points on the lugs.
Dates to 1961-2 23" c-t 22" c-c. A pair of 32/40 Normandy fixed/free laced to Dunlop special lightweight in very good shape at first glance, Mafac dural forge brake set, seat post free, GB stem not so much. Soaking the stem to see if it moves. Name on top tube is sign written not a decal.
