The stem on my DY pictured above has a spacer and I have never had any problems. The fork fitting was done on a budget so it was the cheepest 100mm stem that could go on the ahead 1" fork steerer!

Found the shims I need at Wiggle.....two quid! much cheaper than another Salsa stem
