Mountain Mayhem Returns 2019 let the planning and BS begin

Re:

Hi Guys

Apologies for the lack of up dates over the weekend - especially for those who've recently paid, here's where we are :D

As we hit the milestone of ten paid (across both teams) I've pooled the money to make one team so we now have one bonifide team at Mayhem 2019

when we get the next 10 man entered I'll move the names about to reflect the proper teams.

I've used one of the names Jussa suggested [OAP's on MTB's] as a stop gap but happy to change it

Regarding tickets,

How does the group ticket work as far as entry etc is concerned, do we get individual tickets or is it just a case of name at the gate type thing :)

Good question and one I always forget to answer up front

As far as access goes the event is non ticketed, hence why Any123 and his entourage along with LGF and Regan can get in for nothing and camp for free (as can any of your friends and family) therefore if you don't want to race it equals a cheap weekend away on the lash

Regarding your wider question, and for everyone else whose paid to ride the event

When you go to sign on (having paid you entry fee up front) they'll have an large envelope with your name and team printed on it containing your personal race number/timing chip and a load of shite from the sponsors which can be quite good sometimes

Your teams race numbers will all be consecutive usually starting at 1000 for the 10 man teams

As for how the race works
Friday late afternoon/early evening sees the track open for a leisurely ride round usually in a big group, and again on Saturday morning but you'll most likely find most of your team mates won't get out of their flea pits in time or will have a hang over so don't expect another mass ride out.

when the race starts

Only one member is allowed out at a time with a pit / hand over area where by you meet up and pass on a reflective wrist band (Snap band) at the end of your lap.

Your personal lap time starts when the guy before you crosses the line so if your late turning up/have a good chinwag or run off for a dump its you who gets penalised, when you've completed your lap the timing chip you have strapped to your ankle stops the clock for your lap and starts it for your next team mate. its very basic but it works.

On a ten man team expect to do two laps (possibly a third for a very few) with about 10 to 12 hrs in between however if you want a night lap speak up, As a non believer I always find a dawn lap to be as close to a spiritual moment as I'm going to get and a night lap on or close to the summer solstice are in short supply as its only properly dark for about 4.5 hours - if you have lights and want a giggle as Longun would put it - go for it.

The rest before and after your lap(s) is totally up to you, just bring at least one tube as there ain't gonna be anyone selling them and if you puncture during the race you'll be hard pressed to find anyone carrying a 26' spare, pretty much everything else you can beg borrow or steal.

 and before anyone mentions it check your fancy pants crank bolts are tight before setting out - it can be very long and lonely walk if your forced to Portégé your racing machine whilst carrying a crank in the other hand even if they are purple

hope this makes sense^^ and gives you a bit of an incite, for at least one team the weekend has all the making of being 95% bollocks and only 5% racing* (*Could even be a lot less of the latter)

for the rest its a bit more serious and the fours could turn into darn right War as the so called "Muz Slayers" are coming to get yah Mike, Mike, Matt and Nick (who incidentally needs to be re named Mick)

Lastly

At some point on Friday evening someone will get out a load of old tat which after a few beers seems to reduce otherwise sane folk to open their wallets and buy crap to satisfy the voices in their head that telling them "YOU NEED a winter project for when the nights draw in" :?
(as if any of us needed any more projects)

so either leave you wallet at home or if you can't beat them - join them .....and bring your own shite to sell or barter with

only 296 days left to go ....or if your feeling festive and thinking about joining us, put Mayhem on your Xmas list - Christmas is a lot closer than you think :xmas-big-grin:

A good summary but you forgot the initiation for the newbies.

What will it be this year? Last year got a bit messy. Some still have the stains and (internal) scars. Same again might be ok as I have even less hair.

Last time out I did a double lap through the dawn. Was nice and cool and as above there are not many opportunities for a night ride these days so I'm definitely up for that again.
