It’s getting close now. Starting to actually look like a bike.

I know this might be old hat to youse lot but I’ve been seriously impressed by the mini engineering on these Hope brakes. 4 pots, I’ve barely got 2 on me cars.

Aaaaand now it all works, mostly.
Still got stickerisation to do, check all bolts with correct torque settings and properly clean and bleed brakes as they are quite spongey / soft.

Forks dive like a premier league footballer and it turns out one leg has no oil in at all, so still some way to go.

Despite the problems I’m quite chuffed after nearly 5 months work.
Weight? 35 chuffin’ pounds. That’s why I was out of breath riding round the block and not because it’s been 4 years since I last rode

edit: when I bought it back in early April, it had a very light air shock on and the DJ3's which though weighty (2.2ish Kg) in comparison to my old Pace MXCDs, they were much lighter than the +4Kg of the Shivers. Crikey, and that's without any oil in them.
 
You were out of breath because these old DH bikes were never designed to be pedalled anywhere, that geometry with the saddle out of the back wheel, short chainstay length, short wheelbase, long forks. I love it! It's a real beauty, you've really done it justice there chief.

If youre interested, these M4's share the same pads across the M4 range inc mini mono, the tech and tech evo m4 and the current e4. Also later mini m4's that you have took the plastic pistons, so replacements should be easy to get in CRC or Hope.
 
And so, Fork issues notwithstanding, here's the finale of 5 months of weekends and a fair few workdays.

Many thanks to those that helped with advice, especially Timoth with sage words (and items) about Hope hubs and brakes.

So what's original? The frame, the shock plates/insert and the seat-clamp. Everything else was sourced here as second hand or NOS, or FB pages. Spokes and nipples, cables, tyres and all bolts (except the main pivot bolts) are brand new. All bearings bar the main pivot are also brand new.
Frame is polished alu and matt silver finished, matt lacquered, which was never a factory option and the decals are older designs that the bike had.

To be fair, I don't know what that makes it. Is it a Retrobike or a custom build?

Absolutely outstanding mate top work and thanks for the kind words, it was nice to be able to help out for a change and it’s all info I’ve picked up for here so quite symbiotic really.
 
Fair play, that is stunning. Great attention to detail, down to the little hose clips. Love the anodising, it works really well and isn't overdone
