Motorcycle recommission project - Suzuki GS750

I’ve just had to drill an easy-out out of the low-rider boss on my new (to me) galaxy, slow and gentle on a pillar drill with a tungsten carbide bit did the trick. I’d think very hard before using an easy-out again…

A tungsten carbide bit is essential as it’s about the only thing that will chew through something that hard. Needs cutting oil too (I just used what was handy)

And none of my centre punches would even scratch the easy-out, I was lucky enough to be able to hold the workpiece (fork) at the right angle to start the drill cutting without skating off to the side
Sounds like a soft easy out. A good one* is high carbon and hardened, not just case hardened. Hateful things. Make sure you pay tribute to the workshop gods and sacrifice a 10mm on the alter of clean ways.

A tc bit is a good approach, even better if left handed.
I have a few high speed steel tipped punches, not much resists those (just the tip and only for a second).

*no such thing.
