MOTOR CHAT

Re:

Cars, those asterisked are still in use by family members:
Ford Transit six wheeler (company)
Ford Sierra Est (company)
Vauxhall Chevette bought between jobs (head gasket blew at Tyndrum on Hogmanay when we were of to BofO hotel for party. Hotel owner drove his Range Rover at 100mph in blizzard to pick us up and get us back in time for the bells, dressed in full highland regalia)
Ford Escort (company)
Toyota Hiace Camper (sold on to a dodgy dealer who gave me almost enough to buy the VW)
*VW Camper
Ford Sapphire (company)
Citroen BX GTI (utter shite but fast, crap build quality)
Volvo 240GLT Est (slow and heavy, kept for nearly 20 years, great build quality)
Volvo 340 (inherited from father - actually quite a good motor)
Landrover Discovery V8i with all mod cons and 7 seats, now seen offroading around Argyll
Volvo 240 GLT Est (bought for £100 to use as spares, then dismantled in my garage and got rid of bit by bit. Might still have the bonnet somewhere)
Toyota Previa people carrier #1 (scrapped due to rust)
*BMW E46 328i (very fast but Friday afternoon electrics. Probably up for disposal soon)
*Toyota Previa people carrier #2
*Landrover Series 2a LWB
*Ford Focus (ex Kaiser - still going strong)
*Subaru Legacy

Bikes, asterisks are stiil here:
1979 Yamaha XS 250 (well I had to start somewhere)
1981 Kawasaki Z1000J (that's more like it, eventually sold to a dealer for more than I paid for it)
1977 Honda CB400T (used for brief spell as courier in London before emails were invented)
1982 Honda CB400N (as above)
1980 Honda RS 250 (bought on a whim to do up, sold a month later for 2x purchase price)
*1977 Honda CB750K7 (fed up of commuting traffic in London, back on a bike after 2 yr absence)
*1984 Kawasaki GPZ900R
*1975 Honda CB750K2
*1971 Triumph Bonnie bitsa
*1974 Norton Commando (project but complete)
*1985 Kawasaki GPZ900R

Good to see some other motorised bike enthusiasts here.

Thought I might have it sussed today after pulling motor covers off and making adjustment to camchain tension, but problem persists. Its intermittent too - one minute the motor is sweet as a nut, the next it sound like a bunch of chimps with hammers in a dustbin :(

Starts and idles fine, drives as normal then all hell lets loose, then goes away, then comes back, then goes away.......... consistent with engine speed :(

Top end noise then? I had intermittent racket on a Ducati and it was a loose alternator rotor. Heck of a noise but probably irrelevant if top end. Weird that it is intermittent and a real ball-ache for diagnosis :? . OC will help no doubt. Post when you suss it out - hope that's soon.

Re:

Puch GT50 (Much more like it - quick for a moped and bike touring from Fife to Wester Ross was freedom!)
Moto Guzzi 250 2C (wish I still had this - lovely bike)
Triumph Trident T150 (bought in boxes cos couldn't afford a whole one. built up then stolen. arse)

Never owned a car newer than 2000, then again never been in debt for a car either.

Most valuable car i've owned was the Dodge Charger, sold for 11.5K in 2006 would be worth nearer 18K today

Also one that got away was a solid Datsun 240Z i was offered for £1000 back in the early 90's, body shop owning mate was selling it for the owner who had gone to jail for a long time, it had had a ton of work done, new floors, rear 1/4's wings repaired etc, just needed painting (yellow) and put back together, owner told him to sell it to get the money for the labour and parts, knocked it back as i already had the Ex Race Mini in the above list which ended up scrapped anyway

Re:

Mark a most enviable collection as expected! Particularly like the Imps and Fiats and the Capris of course and the muscle  The 240 sounds like a great opportunity missed, I'd love one of them as well. I once missed out on a minty 2.0 sport, signal orange with tartan Recaros, seller sold it to someone else, I was gutted.
