Most expensive early 90's mtb?

No idea how much guilder/GBP exchange rate was in early 90s, but virtually the Phoenix would be 5000 GBP according to XE converter. You could buy a small car for the same money.

Maybe a better guide is the mainstream brands

Marin Titanium FRS was $4450 1993
Raleigh John Tomac Signature $6250

My Alpinestars Al-Mega XT was reputed to have cost about £1400 in 1991 but AFAIK, the Klein Attitude was the millionaire's bike back then.

1991 Alpinestars ti-mega frame only £1900, frame with forks £2600. a snip at £3173 & £4342 respectively in today's money

The Ti edition would have set the Phoenix buyer financially even more back.

They were more expensive than about any Klein ...and still are.

A YETI ARC AS with Ringle everything, Grafton, XTR and Tioga disc wheel could have been in about the same league, from cost perspective.

The Fisher Alembic was going to cost $6000.00 in 1992, but the company changed hands and only 7 were built before the project was abandoned by the new owners. The Lawwill rear suspension was used and the frame mold was built by Toray in Japan at a cost of $80,000.00 I owned and restored one of these bikes-here it is.
