Modern V brake options

I know they're not modern, but I've always thought that the M739 XT V's are a really lovely piece of design - including the levers. Functional too. Lost their way with them in future iterations.

Understand if you want something newer, but I think they will stand the text of time as a bit of a design classic.

Will you be creating a build thread? I'd be interested to see which parts you use as I also have a Yates 26" wheel size touring / expedition frame waiting patiently for me to start as my next project
I don't usually do build threads, as finding time to do stuff is difficult, and my builds usually take months or even years... there is a link in my sig to a thread with some pics of the old build. Back then it had a mix of campag mechs, sugino chainset, the cane creek brakes... now it will be based on deore DX (hubs, mechs, chainset), with 105 DT shifters, current brakes are the suntour but we'll see... D521 rims, tubus racks. When I eventually get it done I'll post pics, but probably not before

those are definitely the best looking V brakes ever, I had some of the very first ones and got put off parallel push type Vs forever with all the rattling! Would consider a non-rattly set though!

That looks a very capable bike, also looks very similar to the frame set I have. Just wondering, it you take the racks and third bottle cage off does it become a gravel bike?

that's the idea! 🤣 As usual Dave was ahead of the times, this was built as a long distance tourer that could take on pretty much anything but it could be considered a gravel bike before they were a thing. It rides really well both on road and off - no long distance touring in my immediate future though, so I plan on using this for some dirt tracks in the hills around here

If you want some nice Cantilevers, go for the Avid Shortys, they are quite nice looking. Shimano too and other brand like TRP (tektro) etc but not as good looking. Not as expensive as Pauls brakes and with some good pads they brake enought if you have road tires, if you use MTB tires, you will need more power.
Grafton still do some nice V-brakes, but the price is around 200$ per set, too much for a retro built.

For me the most nice and not expensive brakes are the Shimano 739, that still brakes a lot with a good pair of pads and rims, and Avid SD7 and Arch Rival. I don´t know what the arch Rival has, but looks agresive. Mines are waiting at home, they can still be found at a reasonable price, but a bit more expensive than the 739.
