Kinda like the whole 'Kit Car vs Classic' argument. Owned a kit for a while and my dream car is a Sebring kit version of an Austin Healey. Have no interest in an original, as I could not be ars*d with the maintenance and terror of scratching a mint example - what I do want is something that looks the same but drives better.
Plenty of classic purists out there that hate kits, but I am more mellow - I say good luck to them for throwing fortunes at 50-yr old cars and keeping them going, respect due in spades, but it does not interest me at all. Similarly there are kit owners out there that try to make their cars look authentic.
Long as we all respect each other's right to do what they want with our toys then there is no issue. My Kona is a real mix and match and will remain that way - it means that I have kept hold of something I blew my student loan on 14 years ago and I can continue to use it. The beauty is that it is a quality frame that is worth keeping and I could not buy another bike for the money it has cost to update it.
Oh, and it is always good to have something around the house that you have had longer than you have known your wife, keeps you grounded somehow! Sorry about the long incoherent post!
