If it has gone missing (which I doubt) then the blame for this does not lie with me, more the company I paid for a service I have not received ie. royal mail

Buyers treat people trying to raise cash as if they're dealing with a large company, I don't have any contracts or policies, i sell something and drop it off at the post office, It's really that black and white. I've done nothing wrong to lose this packet, I sold it, I posted it and if it goes missing then a refund should be to my disgretion or from the company that so say lost it in the first place.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but you are to blame for being out of pocket. You sent a £150 iphone through the post, uninsured and untracked? You're a fool!

Thanks but that's not what I asked

Re:

Sounds like you have been done, crap When that happens.
I bought something off here once, payed more than I should and When it arived a part was missing.
Seller was less than helpfull, had no interest in sorting it out.
Suck's to get done out of something.

Anyway, 21,on a small apprentice wage, with a baby on the way? Missing ipod is the last thing to concentrate on. Better cover than just your post was required!

TBH there really isn't any advice that can be given other than don't do it again.
Stuff like this is probably in chapter one of the how to do eBay guide.

The service you paid for and the contract you entered into with royal mail is pretty well documented and pretty watertight, so there is a limit to their liability. A lot less than £150.

Haven't you read the dozens (?) odd threads on here over the last however many years about dodgy eBay deals

One question i want to ask though, does the buyer know it was sent second class, ive recieved things bought online before now and theyve taken weeks to arrive due to second class postage, up to ten WORKING days is normal for this, so if youve told him it was posted first class he will be expecting it in two or so days, it could take up to two weeks second class, so youre both definitely going to have to wait a bit longer to know if it isnt going to arrive!

Re:

In will reiterate a case opens if you just tell the seller it ahsnt turned up. EBay did that to me, it turned up that day so case was closed.
It was 2 days past the due time but I wasn't worried yet, I was just informing the seller in case anything their end had delayed it. I'm not the fasted at getting anything posted or sorted, which is why I don't sell unless people ask for it and then I try my best. So I don't expect quick turnaround from seller on here or individuals on eBay because there is life in the way.

Upto ten days is most definitely not "normal" for 2nd class. Two,three,or at the outside, four days is the norm. ten is a possible, but highly abnormal.
Taking weeks to arrive is more likely to be the sender failing to send something promptly and then blaming the Post for slow delivery.
A signature on arrival only costs a quid extra and keeps everyone honest. At this time of year there are quite a few temporary workers covering holiday shortages and they are as much an unknown quantity as the recipient.

Re:

2nd class is 2 to 3 days excluding only Sunday. (So not just the traditional 5 business days).
Hence tell the person sending it that it has not arrived, they need to know to chase up Royal Mail as they've broken their target and compensation for not delivering on time may be claimed. So if it takes a week on 2nd class they can claim from royal mail. As to who should get the stamps value is up to you given buyer paid for the potage...

EBay opens this as a case now though.

Why should the buyer get the stamps / any compo from Royal Mail, they didn't enter into a contract with them, the seller did.

A buyer who has legitimately not received something (or one that is suspected to be dishonest, but cannot be proven) will almost certainly get a full refund under eBay's buyer protection.

The seller will be entitled to whatever compo their carrier provides for the service used.

This is why untracked, uninsured postage shouldn't be used for anything you can't just write off, because it really relies on honesty from the buyer.

Re:

He doesn't know the service used because I don't want to drop myself in it any further. This guy sent me a message which I didn't reply to inside of 24 hours because I have other things to do than check my eBay every couple hours, so he assumed I'm ripping him off or something and opened a case the next morning. This guys patience is clearly not one of his strengths, I have had items taking longer than this to arrive with second class so I am still optimistic that it'll turn up. He thinks after being 3 days late it must have been lost forever....

So you're accusing the buyer of being dishonest yet you're being far from straight with him.

If he's expecting first class post I'm not surprised he's concerned. It would be there by now.
