Miss-matched wheels

Would there be any issue running a 26 x 1.50 wheel on the front of the bike with a 26 x 1.75 wheel on the back? Same manufacture of rim. I cant see any issue myself, just wondered if I was missing something obvious? The cassette is a 7 speed which will fit the bike........

It's more normal to have the back skinnier than the front, in terms of tyre sizes anyway.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, but I'm talking about the actual wheel size & not the tyre size. I run a bigger grippyer front on my Trek Y3 with a narrower faster rolling tyre on the rear but the rims are the same size front and back......

why would there be any issue between a 1.5 front and 1.75 rear?

as long as the tyre fits the rim, and there is sufficient clearance through the frame, its absolutely no problem

you may get a few of the Anoraks on here posting up comments (through their adenoids) to the contrary however, but if its to get you and the bike riding, who cares?

Sorry, I'm lost here. Check the ETRTO number for each rim - they should be 559, in which case they are the same nominal size.

I cannot believe that you have 1.75" wide rims.

Both 26x1.5" and 26x1.75" use the same nominal rim size. The only one that's different is 26" 1 3/8, which is a 590mm ETRTO rim IIRC.

If you happened to have a 517 rim and a 521, you would definitely build the front wheel with the 521 and the rear with the 517, just as if you had un-matched tyres you would put the wider one on the front.

I don't think it's necessary to talk about 'mis-matched' though, as it implies that rims and tyres ought to match - I would say that if anything it is better to have wider wheels and tyres at the front, than it is to have matched wheels and tyres. But then again, matched would be better than having wider at the back than at the front.

Really?
I would put the beefier on the back... but then I grew up on jumping and bmx on bikes

What's the theory Ant?
