I've heard of the Xizang,of course, but not the lightening, are they the same frame?

NO!!!

The Xizang is USA built out of Sandvik tubing and made from 1990-1999 as a frames set all years and a complete bike in 1994 and 1998.
The Lightning was built in Taiwan with Asian Ti and only available as a complete bike in 1997 and 1998

Similar geometry and tubing diameters though.

The top tube end caps are different also. The Xizang end cap is more of an oval and gas a bolter GT logo stamp receesed into the end cap. The Lightning end cap is rounder and has a smaller GT stamped and 3AL/2.5V etched into it....see pics below.

Sorry....didn't mean to hi-jack.... just get some facts straight. As we all know one of the biggest problems with the internet is people tend to believe what they read as the gospel and we've all read stuff about various bikes and parts that just isn't true.

Talk About thread Hi Jack Mods?

I don't think establishing exactly what your frame is can be classed as hijacking, especially as I would probably of had it off you if it had been an 18",unfortunately its gonna be too short for me
