Mike's next bike : Bianchi TSX, more pics, 30th May

Re: Mike's next bike : Bianchi TSX

I think I'd be tempted to go with tape and cable outers to match the decals.
But in fairness, with those lines you could paint it sh!t brown and it would still look good. ;)

Well it is a nineties bike, and I want it to look as such. So either this,

or this,

Decided on black hoods. Either black or grey cable outers. Not decided on that yet.

Cassette arrived today, 8-speed 12-23. Nice and shiny. Matched to the 39/53 TA rings up front

Chain shouldn't be far behind it either

Re:

Hi folks,

Starting to make a bit of progress with this build.
As previously mentioned, I had a headset on the way. Well, as it turns out, I got 90% of it in the end. The seller didn't post one of the plastic washers  , contacted him, and now it's on it's way.
Also, thought I'd better check the hubs, as I hadn't greased them in a while. Sadly found that the front one was dead. Dreaded pitting in the hub body :(
So I ordered another one, that arrived today.

As you can see, it's a 6500, so a bit newer than the 6400, but it matches the rear 6500 nicely. An hour later, the original wheel had been stripped, and the new hub in place, also with new spokes. There's plenty of meat on the rim thankfully.
Also gave up with the Bianchi paint, it's crap!
Went to Tesco with the frame, and came out with something a lot better.

Ironically, with added lycra! Not a bad match and a lot thicker than the other stuff I was using. Here's a couple more shots to show you the closeness.

The top of the seat tube was bare metal, also you can see some more touch-ups just above and to the left of the Columbus sticker. Very happy with match, and will be doing all the rest of the chips this weekend.

You must have got some strange looks walking around Tesco with a frame under your arm!

Re:

Especially from the security guard! just stared back at him til I disappeared down the isle.
The make up girls were ok though chatting to themselves til I asked their opinion on a couple of options. Surprised I had a few choices mate!
Also , I went in the evening when it's quieter
Did the same last year with my 29er frame.

Re:

Been a busy start to the Bank Holiday,

I was putting the finishing touches to the paintwork this morning, followed by tinkering with other bike set-ups while the nail varnish dried.
Later this afternoon, I started to put the bike together. Here's how it ended up at close of play.

Still needs a chain, which is on it's way, so I can't do the gear cables yet either

Seems a bit weird having Cinellli tape on ITM bars, but it looks good I think. Seem to get a lot more cork tape for your money these days, too.
Also, I just remembered I need a short piece of grey gear outer cable for the rear mech. Now where can I find that? :?

Nearly there

Looking beautiful mate. Really nice.
Even though I have a soft spot for these steel Bianchis, I really like the looks of your build with the black setting it off just right. Job very well done :)

Thanks Jamie ;)

I must admit I'm looking forward to riding it. So I can get my old MG-Bianchi-GB or Gatorade team kit on !
Also on the lookout gor a couple of silver bottle cages too. Any recommendations for what to look out for? I'm thinking Elit Ciussi maybe.
