Merlin Elevator garage find

Old School Hero
I collected this Merlin Elevator at the weekend. It’s looking a bit sorry for itself at the moment. It’s a very high spec build, with lots of titanium parts. I’m looking forward to rebuilding it, and transforming it back into a proper mountain bike.

My god those PC8’s take me Straight back to 1995

What’s your plans on the rebuild front?

Speak to Wadsy if you want a replacement set of Mag21's for the front of that. Some really nice parts on it - was it owned by an older gentleman perchance?

Re:

The bike originally belonged to the father-in-law of a guy I know in my local cycling club. The original owner died a few years ago, and the guy I know inherited it. The guy I know is a pure roadie, and the Merlin was much too big for him, so he stuck it in the corner of his garage. Some time last year I went to see him to help him sort out something on his road bike. While I was there I spotted the Merlin in the garage. He pulled the bike out, and he told me the history as he knew it. He didn’t know much about the bike itself, but he knew it was expensive when it was built. I didn’t have any spare cash at the time, so I left it at that. I went back to him a couple of weeks ago, and we agreed a price. I got it for a great price on the agreement that I would restore it and not just sell it. He seemed very happy that it was going to a good home that appreciated what it was, and would give it a new lease of life.

kudos, lovely bike. only ever saw one once before when i was commuting out of central London and I rode past a guy on putney bridge... it caught my eye as you'd expect and i turned and passed on a compliment.
