Well my maggie hs11's are hydro and they dont need servicing often my are from 98 and have never been serviced :D .

Mechanical disc brakes are not as bad as many think they are. Some people swear on Avid brakes. I had for a few months the chaep Shimano BR-M416 brakes.

Modulation is better than V-Brakes. Maximum stopping power on hydraulics might be better (or require less hand power). But mechanicals are very reliable and require little to no maintenance.
