*maybe not a Raleigh Dynatech Odyssey

Still wasn’t happy with this one and probably still won’t be until I’ve got some nicer forks. Would really like some Ugli or the straight blade forks seen on the Mission and Endeavour. The ones on this are Tange something or other, just don’t sit right!

Anyway still recovering from Achilles injury I’ve been slowly tinkering away fettling some parts I already had.

The bike is a combination of earlier XT stuff with some slightly newer hubs. The model would have been full XT when new though it’s likely this frame was a warranty replacement.

Bits I’m happy with

- the brakes aren’t XT but MT62 that I polished up, added XT blocks and updated some bolts. All of this in the spares boxes so pleased to use up some oddments

- I save any bits of useful length cable outer , turns out I had enough XTR offcuts to do everything apart from the rear mech!

- the wheels were an impulse eBay purchase, I was looking for m730/m732 on dark rims. These turned up, anodising was dirty/stained. They polished up really well with Barkeepers friend - worth noting for future reference it really refreshes anodised stuff.

Stuff I’m not happy with
- the forks/geometry
- seatpost - is genuine XT, was scabby so I painted it while waiting for new decals. These arrived and are not cut to the text, they went on in a block and look like a lash up to me. Will be looking for some better quality.
- straddle cables have some kinks, were all I had in the box so will be ordering some new ones.

I’m only able to ride around the garden at the moment as I’m in an ortho boot and paranoid about damaging my leg so I’m not sure how it rides yet.

Well the story of this imposter is going to very soon come to an end. @desmondo has kindly supplied me with what is an almost mint genuine Odyssey frame/forks/stem/bars really only a couple of marks on the head tube which I will be able to touch in with the paint I already have. The bars have got some rust where the grips go - looks to me like Raleigh didn’t paint the whole bar, easily sorted and hidden under grips.

It’s not far off the condition of my Mission

can’t wait to have it built and lined up the the Voyager and Mission together!

Luckily the seatpost on the imposter bike is the right size, the rest of the almost correct XT group will swap over nicely.

Great addition to the line-up! The '91 Dyna-Tech range all lined up together would be a great collection to aim for. Any one done it yet? - I've seen it with the Diablo models but not this year of Dyna-Tech. ;)

Cheers.

It’d be good to see it back on the road. I may have the original grips somewhere and probably other bits. I’ll send them over when I have a dig around.
