Marin or Not?

Result!

Right, have to be brief because im at work,
just rang the Marin number, and was informed that Grant was responsible for supplying over 100 bike shops and didnt really have the time to be talking to me about old frames,
spoke with a lovely lady called Debbie, intially a bit frosty, but then very lovely, who had worked at Marin Uk for 19 years and had access to catalogues going back to 1990,
frame number no good as they did not keep records from 1990, however
from my description, she believes it to be a 1990 Muirwoods, It came in the neon yellow i described, all the frames at that time had my strange triangular cable routing, all bikes for that year came top mounted with u brake as standard, the Muirwoods also came with VP 20's full shimano groupset, M200SGS, came with spinner forks, had my forward facing dropouts,
however forks were yellow not black, seat post was silver not black like mine, and no pedal cages like mine, Debbie not too concerned at this as she said Marin dealers would often, tweak and change and add certain parts due to customer preference,
so result i feel, and she will be sending me a scan of the catalogue over the next few days, i do think they are getting a little bit fed up of people ringing which is understandable.
Im still not painting it bloody neon yellow though

1990/

Hi ya Fuffy, have i done something to upset you,lol

what she said was that the number made no sense, it did not tie in with the way later frames are numbered, it did not sound like a Marin number but that they did not keep records of 1990 and pre this date to cross check anyway.
if my triangular cable routing was standard of the time, as was the u brake which came on all models as standard regardless of frame size its gonna cause problems for WD Pro and his 1990 dating, as his has the later graceful curve brake cable routing and did not have a ubrake.
will know more when i receive the scan however

I am fairly confident its a 90 as :

Forks were made in 1989
Zolotone came in 1990 (got)
Afterburners came in 1991 (not got)

Perhaps it was a late 90 ? Would love a copy of that scan when you get it :D

I kick myself for not keeping / losing the reciept - Mike Cookson cycles £419 ... How come I remeber thigs like this but not things I did last week ...

to keep you going
(please note the part above their address about sizes and hence why the U-Brake on small frames was mentioned earlier ;))

Yep, thats my year

The BV was the only one to get the darker zolotone.

Wouldnt happen to have the BV page would you ? :D

They're from a post in the catalouge area, all I could find.

benandemu maybe able to scan more early era's in ??

Catalogue's

I agree with there being something with the catalogues, the scan on this site that says Marin 91, and the scan that WD Pro sent me again from 91, are not the same, the one on this site seems to be more recent, could they have issued two catalogues per year, or the one in America was a year ahead or something, Debbie who i spoke to today, said that the scan she is sending is from 90, and that the Muirwoods is neon yellow, and all bikes across the range came with u brake.

well will know more when she sends,
and will definitely let you have a scan aswell WD,
I also let my opinion on the Boringass ridge being a commuter bike be known during our conversation and she got a bit snotty at that, she seems very loyal and loving of Marins too, she said it was an entry level MTB ,but that is was not i repeat not a commuter bike, or hybrid, or city bike but a mtb,
she did warm to me in the end though i think, lol
