Looks like a big crack across the faceplate. Going to guess those bars are pretty crimped at the centre section.

Twisters and H20 cage would pay the 25-40 estimate with a good bit left over.
 
That would've been some piece when it was new.
Most of your mates would never have ridden a suspension fork yet.
Aluminium frames were still rare too - partly because they can be truly horrible fully rigid😉

Shame about the stem.
Do we vote for:

Aluminium fatigue over time?
or PO with poor understanding of torque requirements?
 
Does look like you can buy replacement faceplates albeit without the logo. I’d be worried about the threads though if it’s been tightened so much. It’s not for me but I can see that’s some nice subtle ‘90s upgrades there.
