Re:
Hello Retrobike. This is my first post on the forum.
I couldn't believe that someone has recently bought two 1989 Marin Bear Valleys. I was pleased to read from the replies that they are still highly regarded and sought after.
I bought a black Bear Valley for my 30th birthday in 1989. My wife liked it so much she bought one too! A friend of mine owned a windsurfing/mountain-biking shop at the time, and we got them at trade price - £319 each which was a LOT to me then.
We're now in our mid-fifties and have decided our mountain-biking days are over, and I am shortly going to be advertising them on the forum for sale. I'd like to sell them to retro bike enthusiasts who would hopefully keep them in as original spec as possible.
The bikes are both 1989 Marin Bear Valley Black models, the first year of the sloping top-tube. From memory I think the official frame sizes are 19" and 17", but I can't remember for sure! If it's a help my wife's bike was the size that had the rear brake mounted to the bottom bracket, and mine is the next size up, with the rear brake conventionally-mounted.
They are both 100% original, exactly as they left the factory, with the tiny exception that my wife had to replace the chain on hers, when the original broke. Yes, they do both have their original Marin Rock Star tyres, Biopace chainwheels and black Araya rims - I appreciate a few things will have to be renewed for different reasons! Both bikes are totally straight and never had any shunts. Although they were lightly used, there are of course scratches here and there, and most chrome fasteners are rust-tarnished. The bikes are in Central Scotland.
I've posted this reply mainly to see if there is interest in these bikes? I hope this is not in infringement of Retrobike rules. As I said earlier I'll be posting a proper advert very soon, but if you want more details or pictures meantime please PM me.
