to me, there are two ways of thinking as far as what is retro. i can understand the purist theory that it all has to be of the right age to be proper retro but i also think there is room out there for brand new stuff with a retro influence, that still evokes much the same reaction and embodies everything good and bad about what it's aspiring to. i can give an example. i recently purchased a reproduction of a stylophone. they were crap, weren't they! i'm not old enough to remember the originals but all too aware of how terrible they sounded! this repro version works in exactly the same way as the old one, looks the same, sounds as bad but has the modern addition of an mp3 input in the side, so you can scroll through your iPod, find either 'telstar' by the tornados or 'space oddity' by bowie, plug it in and play along, very very badly! it doesn't matter that it's brand new, it still gives you the impression that it's old.

another example. Volkswagen camper vans with brand new polo engine and good brakes etc. still looks great but is also reliable.

i think bikes can do the same. new school tecnology, old school look and feel. nowt wrong with that. i quite like the idea of having a bike that looks really old but actually works! so i'm building one! have a look at www.pereiracycles.com. he builds old looks, new tech bikes and does a damn fine job of it.

I was going to go with Carsten's 1991 Merlin Elevator at first so many different ones to choose from this month and then seen holden's 1996 Ibis Mojo Ti and i always had a thing for IBIS so theat split my choice so am afraid it was done on the coin flip and i fell into the 3% for the IBIS

Nice, i've always enjoyed those bikes. They remind me of a less detailed Vanilla, and a more detailed less transportation baised ANT.

Last day of voting.

The full Campagnolo build gets my vote. Thanks to whoever it was who voted for mine. it got proper dirty at the weekend!
