Manitou4 Disassembly

If I recall, I just used a small straight blade screwdriver to remove them when I rebuilt my Manitou 4.
Either that, or a pair of circlip pliers.

Yup. A slot jeweler’s screwdriver to pull the pointed end of the clip out of the slot and upward is all that is needed. The clip ends are cut at an angle. One end points to the stanchion, the other points back into the slider groove. Get the bifocals out and look close. You’ll see the end that can be pried out. Be cautious so as not to scratch the stanchion tube.

Another note - The owner of SFP was kind enough to speak with me a few weeks back regarding the type of grease that can be used on elastomers. It can only be 100% silicone grease, plumber’s grease is a good option.

Congrats on your forks. The 4 is arguably one of the best looking suspension forks ever made.

Thanks for the tips, and you're right, my vision is pretty poor these days. Now I just need to figure out what to replace the rock-hard, squished elastomers with? BTW I also agree that these early Manitous are cool looking and the machining is top notch. I have a Comp with springs on my Brodie and it looks great.
