Manitou fork timelines

Re:

I believe there was also an EFC with a disk brake mount.......maybe for a pro stop ?

Magnums were a "simple" version of the 4s without the preload dial..so a little cheaper I seem to remember.....they did come with a really cool machined out fork brace though.

Re:

Hi.. I still have the efc that came with my bianchi..I didn't follow manitou shocks that close but the efc I have has the aluminum steer tube which I translate as upper end, I dunno???? This one still has the west pine brake setup as well....weird

EFC, EFC-DH and Manitou 4 are all '94, Mach 5 1995.

The 4 and EFC were 95, same year Judy came out. Then the Mach 5 in 96 with the big recall. I always thought the EFC was a last minute fork thrown together to compete with the Judy.

I think the disk mount fork was for a Sachs brake but can't remember for sure, or maybe it was for a Hope.

Hi,

as far as I know both M3 and M4 were made in a disc version.
Both meant to mount the Sachs Power Disc
Here is the M4 version:

The EFC also came in a disc version. These were to fit Pro Stop
for Mountain Cycle:

Both M3 and M4 were build with black and gold inner legs.
Don't know the reason for that.

Second to the Mach5 1996 also featured an EFC with a modified
brake booster and re-done colour-scheme.
(still looking for one, aswell as an early M1)

Here's a line up of some of my Manitou forks:

Re:

Thanks !

It is just a part of the collection. There's about 35 more ;-)
Some in parts, some mounted onto my bikes.

The M3 and M4 are my favourites. Allthough I like the varios
EFC's aswell.

Cheers

"What was the score with putting the Mach 5 internals into the Manitou 4 fork?"

I have looked into that. I tried... but unfortunately, whilst the tube diameters are the same, they did change the bushing design from Manitou 4 to Mach 5 dramatically enough that the Mach 5 uppers cannot be transplanted to the Manitou 4 lowers and crown. This could have been a cool and cheap way to upgrade your Manitou 4 or 3 to an oil damper and steel (or Ti) springs (Mach5 forks aren't very popular and they can be purchased cheaply).
That being said, the EFC internals are compatible with the Manitou 3 and 4 lowers (sort of... you do have to drill a bigger hole at the bottom of the right leg where the oil damper is, but that is a very easy fix). I do own a Manitou 3 fork that has the EFC internals transplanted to it. I also got rid of the elastomers and used a Titanium spring kit from a SX-Ti fork... and voila: Manitou 3 looks but a more modern performance.
