Manitou Comp Help

Hi

Got a set of Manitou Comp’s which have always worked perfectly until recently when they started to compress fully but not return.

Stripped them down and noticed the bottom out bushes were more like foam than elastomers so ordered an elastomer and dust seal kit from eBay.

I’m pretty certain I have correctly installed the kit using the photos I took while stripping down, and following a rebuild video on YouTube.

They compress and return fine but when the bike is under rider weight (this hasn’t changed…much) the forks compress to almost their entire travel. When I brake the fork crown hits the top of the tyre.

I have also tried swapping back to the still firm, original elastomers but it does exactly the same thing.

Is there something I have possibly missed?
Or, probably less popular but has anyone converted Manitou’s to rigid ?

Forks are in pretty good cosmetic shape and I like the look so don’t want to lose them.

Thanks

Hello, have you figured this out? Hope you got it sorted....

I also have a set of Comp and did a rebuild using replacement elastomers from suspensionforkparts.net, what did you order form eBay?

Rebuild instructions are here:
https://suspensionforkparts.net/manuals/Manitou/Manitou_Comp.pdf
I suspect you are using elastomers which are too soft perhaps?

Also you can tell if the stack has enough rebound compression when you put the top cap on. You will have to put decent pressure on the cap, then turning it to install the top cap.

Let me know if you have any questions...

Hi Supreme! I am very happy to help you with your MANITOU Comp problem. You can lways PM me for technical questions.

I do produce professional original-like revision kits and also single elastomers for the model (and every other MANITOU retro fork model up to about 1998. These are by far the highest quality elastomers you can get in europe. You can hardly compare these to other european competitors.

I would say that you either maybe use too soft elastomers or youre maybe missing a crucial washer part on your black compression rods. Might that be possible?

Write me if you have further questions!

Cheers
