Manitou 2-4 Progression

The second one had purple bits in the decals, the third one blue, and the fourth version had a bit more blue. Probably different inside too I imagine.

I'm no expert.

Here is a picture I found on FirstFlight of versions one to five:

M1's had the brace integral with the brake boss mounting holes, had steel straight leg stanchions with a top-out damper in the stanchion and elastomer or spring/elastomer damping;

M2's had the brace bolted to seperate mountings to the brake bosses, externally butted steel stanchions with the same damping arrangement;

M3's had alloy stanchions with a completely different damping arrangement - seperate elastomer stack on a skewer with preload.

M4's were very similar but 1/2" longer travel due to different elastomer combo.

Didn't know there was a M5...

There are also Manitou Comps and Sports which are variations on the M2...

So you reckon it was just aesthetical changes do you... I doubt that!
I was just getting your thread moving Bernard. I'm sure there were some significant technical changes between the versions, I seem to recall a review of the Manitou 3 which suggested plenty of improvements over earlier versions.
I think the review I refer to is in the archive.

But as I said before...

The M 5's also had an efc cartridge.. the last good looking mani fork I reckon... not sure if they were officially called M 5's or just efc's..

Lets face it, this is Retrobike, they're the most important ones.

are the Mach 5's the same internals of the EFC, but with different lowwer lwegs/arch?
and do/will the crowns from a mach 5 fit an efc?

Just that I have a M3 attached to a bike with a 1 1/8 steerer, and a canabilised M3 attached to a M frame with a 1 1/4 in steerer (threaded)...and an EFC with a blown damper and the (new alloy steerer) crown MIA (the efc has been attached to both bikes at various times)... but think of putting it on another bike, but need to do some fixing...
