Making a 'profit'

Constant selling at cost or at a loss[even only a few pounds]will kill the love and put you in the poorhouse :?

poorerhouse

Honestly? I can't see the dilemma. I will always sell an item on here for what I paid for it and sometimes less. I consider it to be in the spirit if this community and it's all karma in the end. I wouldn't go on e-bay or marktplaats without offering here first, so nothing "desirable" needs to leave the community.

Grey areas? plenty. Selling part of a package / parting out a complete bike it becomes difficult to attribute "what I paid" versus the leftovers. And sometimes it is plain hard to remember what I paid for one of many items months ago.

As for griping or chastising, I try not to and treat fellow retrobikers as I would want them to treat me. Live and let live etc. and some here see it as a sport I believe. But if I reckognise it I go shopping elsewhere.

Enjoy!!

People will only pay what they see as fair and were all adults... but I was looked after by foolzgold on here having being stitched up on ebay with a cracked RTS he took pity on me and let me take his X1 off him for mates rates. What goes round comes around.

If it sells at the price you set then fair play- however some folk seem only to be on the forum to sell and make money and much as this can be very useful does not fit the usual modus operantum of your typical retro bike nut- sharing the love and usually losing money.

By all means ask market value, but.......where I think people have a problem with it, certainly I have a problem with it, is the blatantly obvious attempt at profiteering........a recent example that springs to mind was a Cannondale somethingorother.....ebay auction ended Sunday evening, advert was up on here Monday morning with a sob story and a £100 mark-up..........FFS the thing wasn't even in his possesion yet

Yeah, but I bet no-one's bought it. I can't believe speculatively buying anything like a bike on Ebay to sell at a profit here is a viable business model.

People have a laugh with pricing, and their bikes don't sell.

I think its fair enough to sell something at market value, with the exception of selling on freebies. I think most people on here have given plenty of stuff away or sold stuff really cheap to help people out so it does really annoy me when people get called for selling something at its true value

i myself think it more about the fellas who you see come on here with the 'newbie' tag, only posting to make a quick buck, but by the same token there are originators and respected posters that know no better than to turn a quick buck.
its impossibe to determine, its down to your judgement,if you know, you know.

I feel as though, if you bougt it at a steal because someone was being nice or trying to help you out on the forum AND you decide to just turn around and sell it thats f**ked up, but if you buy it at a good deal... ebay... etc... whatever, free game

only time i dont support a profit is if somebody did you that deal for karma and you turned around and bit them in the arse, which it sounds like you most certainly did not do

have a light conscience :)
