Thank you gents. but looks like there is no product that is a slam dunk for replicating the SL finish.
So perhaps I will blaze a new trail and try this product from Dupli Color, the description sounds like exactly what I need. I can polish the legs to a shine no problem. I have a wheel in my garage.

For what it's worth, I did mirror polish mine, and then layed down some Tamiya clear yellow. The match was pretty good, but I just couldn't get the paint layers uniform enough to give a finish I was happy with. If you can get a clear powdercoat in the right colour, I reckon you'd be happy.
