I've always thought there must be so many old bikes in France, Begium, Italy that they're practically "worthless".
Giant does well where I am near Toulouse, but it's mostly electric assist and top end road bikes. There's a lot of stuff mid/low end that I recognise there from this time last yearPeak hipster cycle years, a former colleague of mine was traveling over to France with a van and buying up French bikes for a few euros apiece.
They'd so them back to London and sell then, Brick Lane iirc, 250 apiece.
They never mentioned to the buyer the headset threads, bbs, shonky seatpost sizes
There's clearly still a surplus.
I wonder how their high end retailers are doing compared to the UK atm?
This isn't eBay. Most of these ads are from Leboncoin, which is used in preference to eBay, as the French have taken against it. It's a national hate figure in France, and Leboncoin has been very successful in trumping it. Instead of the sellers paying fees, the buyers pay approximately a 5% fee, thus making it very popular with small time sellers, and hence low prices. As a seller you pay exactly zero fees. They use local couriers and existing lock box delivery systems, so the average shipping cost is fixed at around 3 quid for articles under a kilo.Pointless thread, no links attached, I can point out to 10000 bike on sale for little or no money, but adding picture and country only means nothing to nobody but myself.
And BTW we already have a thread for such finds. It's very often visited by lots of forum members, so check any example how to do it and post on there https://www.retrobike.co.uk/forums/road-ebay-marketplace-watch.37/
The thread you referenced is predominantly a UK eBay focused thread, which is of little or no interest to anyone living, or visiting France. eBay is not well liked, nor utilised by the French. They have their own methods and systems of reselling, on and offline which I am happy to educate you about. The buying and selling of classic/vintage bicycles in France is quite a complex and diverse medium, which, unless you understand the mechanisms can be difficult to interact with. I've lived here on and off for 15 years. The thread I posted is about any bargain, eBay, FB, live auctions, Dutch sites, Italian sites German sites and French too. I'm quite aware of Leboncoin and also about prices on the continent, France included, so I believe are most of chaps on here.
Anyone thinking of coming to France on hols would want to know where about that bargain is, no use of it if in Liege while holidaying in Nice for an example, wouldn't you say so? Not to mention to those already there - you would want to where a particular bargain in the UK is located and details like collection only, so no different for France. Otherwise is just bragging about lower prices, which we know they are, not just of vintage bikes.
But as already said - use the existing thread, that's why they are here
