MacRetro chat and rides thread

I'm scared just watching the video sat on the sofa!

Definitely need to get this built back up if I'm going, as that stupid Marin FRS was more Retro Slouch than Retro Bounce.

The AMP forks are now back on their rightful frame - the Marin Team Ti, so I'll put the Maverick DUCs on it - 5" rear and 4"-6" front should hopefully see my skill-less body to the bottom in one (slow) piece.

It'll also help to actually have brakes that work as opposed to just resting on the rims, and hopefully I'll have either glasses or contacts by then so I can see where I'm going - I hate being unemployed and skint all the time!

I think we should heavily promote Inners as a meet suited for retro bounce not rigids as all that rock, roots and vertical stuff would really punish you without suspension.

Does that not exclude the majority of retro bikers who have no full bounce?

Aye, I'd think it would. I wouldn't want to discourage anybody from showing up and riding rigid, especially on a national - this is retrobike after all. And we know the rest of Inners is pretty retro friendly, especially with the assorted chicken runs.

Anyway, I'd suggest we still scout it and see how bad it is. Going by the vid, we could possibly have it as an option for those that feel they (or their bikes) are up to it. My gut feeling says big.eck and enid would enjoy it on their 'rigs', but that might be it.

Not going to lie, even with a modern full bounce that is beyond my ability as a rider. Second half would be OK but the wooded section would end in tears.

Hud on, how can anyone say inners XC run is retro friendly as none of you have ridden it on a rigid, which I might add, I have. There are rocks a plenty, tree roots a plenty and some of the so called chicken runs are steeper than the obstacles you meet at GT and some obstacles do not have chicken runs

The alternative routes are described as gnarly but as many are unsurfaced thus no hardcore or stone pitching they may be more forgiving of old kits lack of travel.

Anyway a hardtail still has bounce, I didn't say full sussers were mandatory. Further folk on rigids have moaned about GT giving their wrists/arms/bodies a bad time and thats not just Macretro members or retrobike participants in our rides. Inners is more extreme than GT and thus its only fair to mention this and dishonest to say otherwise.

I have no intention of putting retrobikers off but if you choose a venue designed for modern bikes not old ones then you need to be honest.

I'd have chosen Pitmedden for a retrobike meet but i'm not a AEC !

Anyone got any recommendations for good riding near Loch Awe?

Going up there next weekend for a non bike thing but plan to chuck a couple of bikes in the back of the van and ride Sunday avo, Monday and Tuesday morning before coming back down the road. Happy to go a bit further north at first. Any thoughts?
