MacRetro chat and rides thread

Aye picked up on that one. I'll need to pour over the content a bit more. Maybe ask if we can reproduce the material on a thread here.

Anyone signed up to sport pursuit? Dis so recently, and saw a few bargains go through. Few bike bits and bobs too. The idea is you join then preoroder the items, because of the bulk buying and shipping straight from source the prices are very low compared to rrp. Don't expect next day delivery though!

yes I have, didn't realise how it worked though, Although cheaper some of their prices are fairly close to CRC and the like though

Edit to above post, I'm second on the list of registered riders but i hope they figure i'm last on the list of capable fixie riders

Also had a wee squint on interweb for some secret single track at inners and found this for our Big Macretro ride:-

This route is one of my favourite descents as it's pretty technical with lots of roots and mud to test you.

It starts at post 29 on the trail map which is just at the end of the Enduro section. Whether you have done the full climb to the top of Minch Moor - or taken the short cut to avoid the top - you would normally pass through this section on your way down.

As you'll see from the photo, the way-marker tells you to take a right turn at this point (this is the section that is currently closed). Instead of turning right, take the trail that is straight ahead of you, which will take you on a steady climb. It is a really tricky section as it's both rocky and boggy and at this time of year is almost impassable. The first half a mile is the hardest, until the path takes a 90 degree left which is easy to miss (look out for tyre tracks heading up the trail). You'll see from the GPS map (link at the end) that you almost double back on yourself with two sharp left turns before popping out at the top of the Innerleithen DH runs.

Take another left and go past the sign that signifies the start of the Matador run and carry on for about another 30 meters. On your right you'll see tracks heading into the woods. This is where the fun begins.

On entering the woods, the track forks - take the left trail and then follow your nose. It's a brilliant (un-mapped) trail that incorporates loads of rocks and roots.

When you hit the forest road, turn left and head up the hill. On the crest of the hill , the track widens slightly and if you look carefully you'll find more tyre tracks dropping off to your right. This section is mich tighter than the first and isn't such a well-defined trail so it will flip you if you're not paying attention. This one's a bit more of a secret, so I didn't tell you about it - right!

You'll come out on the lower forest track that you probably came up earlier on in your ride. Take a right and then follow the track for a mile or so. I usually take the lower Matador run from here, but if you prefer you can stay on the track until you hit the Caddon Bank descent. Either way it's a great finish to a ride.

Enjoy.
