MacRetro chat and rides thread

Relentless24 is in October as is Hairy Coo - Really the last month for epics too as it gets a bit chilly for over nighters later on. (well ones outside and not in a hostel or B&B)

The Peaks meets the last time i'm camping this year, I've already got my thermal undies on and its still August

Relentless 24 is too much for me and hairy Coo doesn't appeal. Nah I'm just for MacRetro day meets until the spring.

I got so worried about a cold night with no sleep that I nipped out to millets and got a 3 season sleeping bag- bargain at £25

I was using my 3 season at Penpont by the Drum, rated down to -5 degrees C. I've tested it to at least that in Morocco in the desert in December, it worked but only just. A former girlfriend liked camping in highland snow fields in January, not for me even with a 5 season bag if such a thing could exist

I was just reading NE & Yorkies 'Blue Man' Aftermath.
Looked brilliant, must dig out some OS maps and see if I can create a ride like that with a Pub stop on route :D
Maybe we could try and come up with MacRetro regional off road tours.
I love trail centres perhaps too much and I'm not seeing enough of Scotland from my bike

The southern clans always have a pub stop  I think its an excellent suggestion :D

The Dunkeld ride always ends at the pub, putting a pub in the middle of the ride would be better but with our experience of Mikee's local's hospitallity service can't be guaranteed.

As I neared home on saturday after the Blue Man I realised that despite living in Northumberland for 13 years I have yet to tackle the big hills on the horizon that I see every day. There is said to be some epic riding in those Cheviot Hills. How about a Two Tribes ride. You guys start in Scotia, we will start in Englandshire and meet up and ride the Border Ridge? We have nothing planned for late september/ early october. We have had some good NE/ MacRetro rides in the past and we are well overdue another!

Si

I've been looking at that idea. The Southern Upland Way travels along the cheviot ridge near the Cheviot itself. Obvious starting point on our side is Kirk Yetholm. There is also a hill farm I used to visit for work at Sourhope which has stunning terrain and a fair bit of landrover track heading into the wilderness.

I'm up for it but the rest of the clan might not be :D
