MacRetro chat and rides thread

If you get a break in the clouds over the next two nights head out of town to somewhere dark and look north. A big solar flare is heading our way and we should get a pretty good display of the Northern Lights.

I saw it back in the late 90's and it really is worth trying to see.

Here's one I prepared earlier:

Hmmmmmm - on my "must see" list

BTW - Panda invasion of Orkney temporarily on hold - looks like we're hitting the high life in Nethybridge first

Evening MacRetro boys and girls, thought i'd drop you line about our ride on Saturday August 28th at Whinlatter Trail Centre, near Keswick. I know a few of your members are relatively local so thought you might be interested.

Details can be found >>>HERE<<<, hope you can make it.

OK MacRetro. For anyone planning on doing the Peaks Meet (and you should because it's brilliant) I have been ringing round to get some accomodation. My usual spot (and everywhere else I have tried) is fully booked that weekend but I have managed to find an off the radar place that has room. There are 3 rooms up for grabs with a total of 9 beds. Prices are from £15 to £28pppn for room only. Breakfasts are available at the excellent Causeway House for £6 extra. Location is Castleton which is 10 mins walk/ 5 mins ride from Hope where the ride begins. The pubs in Castleton are open to 1am which is a bonus.

If you want a room/bed in a shared room please PM me ASAP as the Landlady is only holding the spaces until the weekend.

Cheers
Si

I'm up for an overnighter but no in a tent

I noticed Glentress has those wooden Wigwam things - could be good for a piss up. £35 per wigwam per night.

After a bit of detective work and a few emails I have had an email from the organiser of the Innerleithen downhill race in 1991/2 he now runs the http://www.thebicycleworks.co.uk/ shop up by the meadows, now I am back from my hols I'll have a word with him on the phone to see what he remembers. He mentioned in his reply he would be happy to try and recce the route with me, if the timing was right.
