On a more serious note today's ride made me want some tyres that don't slide as much as 16 year old rubber, any "all condition" tyre recommendations?

looking for modern all condition tyres to cover my normal day to weekend riding, road and trail and single track.

Ideally after the weekend I'd like something that doesn't slide when I traverse a wet mossy tree root or boulder - less bothered about ice ability, anything bar studs slides on that.

The sock thing works because of the wool/fibres embedding themselves in the ice (a bit like velcro)* Does smooth rubber have the same effect? A tyre wrapped in socks might draw funny looks.

Most modern tyres are good tbh, and most manufacturers will have their do it all. What you really need to do is pick one that matches your bike .
