MacRetro chat and rides thread

Such positive vibes man. Try being more dictatorial ie. Right then you bunch of lemmings, we are going to put on the best sodding event of 2010 and you are all going to muck in. No excuses, you're doing it so stand up straight at the back

Also Velo, don't let geography put you off with selecting your team. Ed Orange is on the BDW organising team and lives 250 miles from me and ain't even in the NE&Yorks Group. We live in the digital world my man. Be bold and delegate!

Velo - yes, willing to help out. The Highland RB games concept that you and DaveDH came up with is an absolutely cracking idea. I'm like you though, I do have my reservations about actually doing it somewhere up north, I think it'll attract more of our shandy drinking brethren if done somewhere in the Borders.

Should be a good topic of conversation for the weegie Xmas day oot. Beer and weight of numbers makes these things easier to get off the ground I think :D

Simple Question MacRetro Riders :

Do you have the stomach for helping me organise one weekend event for the national rides calendar. Baring in mind its a lot of hassle and we are geographically quite spread out. ...........etc,etc,etc...

I'm a membr of a UK motorcycle club with numerous "bashes" throughout the year. Always a problem coordinating large numbers of folk to travel from all ends of the country but everything still goes ahead, even if only a dozen or less attendees.
Folk's availability, cash situation, weather, and travelling distance all provide valid reasons for not attending. We just go ahead and set dates, locations (usually similar ones each year) and hope for the best. Scottish meet four last 3/4 years has been Skye and people have travelled from the Home Counties and South West (even a German chap last year I think).

IMHO the location has to be a good magnet - no point holding an event in a boring muddy field, similar to one found 500 miles south, need a stunning scenery backdrop to the occasion  combined with unusual local habits to entertain

Need also suitable accomodation (campsite near hotel with essential microbrewery), cheap B&B, suitable area where you can "do stuff" like bicycle tossing without annoying other people or causing damage and in this case - good cycling/MTB locally.

So - I'd go Cairngorms, Perthshire (maybe), Blackmount/Fort William/Laggan, Skye  or even The Empty Quarter in the Very Far Northwest (not really familiar with The Borders  )

For weekend away it needs to be interesting and different.

I will muck in too. So there you have it Velo. You have the makings of a strong team with some good ideas already!

There will be a 2010 calendar going up in the next few weeks. You can work out a date and build from there.

Good stuff!

Simple Question MacRetro Riders :

Do you have the stomach for helping me organise one weekend event for the national rides calendar. Baring in mind its a lot of hassle and we are geographically quite spread out. A simple yes or no is all I want and I will not think any the less of anyone who does not want to go for it. I will not organise one entirely on my own.

I personally think it a difficult task to encourage the English majority to make the effort to come up here for anything less than a big bash. Past evidence has shown only Dr S, Sithlord and Alpwilli were prepared to cross the border and they live near the border !

Should the answer be a negative then we just continue with the status quo and Mr K can be disapointed with us which I can survive quite frankly.

 Jeez what d'ya want written permission. Velo have one event, let US not bite off more than we can chew, Coordinate the date with the other AEC's. If someone could lead it then great, if not this might bumble along to nothing. My suggestion was Glentress , it has the draw to possibly pull people from down south, it has the new wee sheleter things down at the hub and you could have a split weekend with some natural riding one day trail centre next.

The reason more folks are looking to you is someone has to do it and if someones wearing a AEC cap then I know who I'd look too.

For the rest of the year me and Gazz have said we'll organise a bothy trip and I said I'll also organise the endurancey things if anyones wanting to do it. I'll also help recce the Peebles area for the natrual riding bit, I have a few magazines with trails in the area.

:D

I'd also suggest going for May/early June to get a better chance of decent (dry) weather ;)

On a different note - anyone fancy a jaunt to Cape Wrath for the hell of it :?:
