Simple Question MacRetro Riders :
Do you have the stomach for helping me organise one weekend event for the national rides calendar. Baring in mind its a lot of hassle and we are geographically quite spread out. ...........etc,etc,etc...
I'm a membr of a UK motorcycle club with numerous "bashes" throughout the year. Always a problem coordinating large numbers of folk to travel from all ends of the country but everything still goes ahead, even if only a dozen or less attendees.
Folk's availability, cash situation, weather, and travelling distance all provide valid reasons for not attending. We just go ahead and set dates, locations (usually similar ones each year) and hope for the best. Scottish meet four last 3/4 years has been Skye and people have travelled from the Home Counties and South West (even a German chap last year I think).
IMHO the location has to be a good magnet - no point holding an event in a boring muddy field, similar to one found 500 miles south, need a stunning scenery backdrop to the occasion
combined with unusual local habits to entertain
Need also suitable accomodation (campsite near hotel with essential microbrewery), cheap B&B, suitable area where you can "do stuff" like bicycle tossing without annoying other people or causing damage and in this case - good cycling/MTB locally.
So - I'd go Cairngorms, Perthshire (maybe), Blackmount/Fort William/Laggan, Skye
or even The Empty Quarter in the Very Far Northwest (not really familiar with The Borders  )
For weekend away it needs to be interesting and different.
