MacRetro chat and rides thread

On another note there is the Glentress winter Duathlon series.......

Velo I think I can make Auchentoshan (sp?) and if I like it I can make the Dundee one. Technically off for the Aviemore ones too.

Gazz I reckon I'll be focusing on the singlespeed events but may make the effort for Mayhem. As I was saying theres enough Scottish enduro's in the best biking country in the world :) to cut our teeth on. From what I understand the mayhem course can be just a big mudfest.

Remember when driving your probably one of the idiots cyclists dislike especially if you've got a short fuse. I've been sworn at by cyclists and vice versa myself

Yeah, but i'm patient with cyclists as i know what it's like, a lot of car drivers have'nt been on a bike since they were 12 and cant see past the end of their bonnet, the incedent i'm talking about was last Sunday morning, the guy could'nt pass safely due to oncoming cars so instead of waiting chose to nearly knock me into the hedge , riding offroad is dangerous but if i get done in i've only myself to blame

I'll sit on the roadie fence for now ;)

Did you find out about those hose lengths ?, are you still wanting the Magura's ?

Out on the Ku today for a singlespeeding hour round the local park :) very enjoyable :)

Sounds like you've made your mind up about the Yo then  Wish I could have made the Peaks meet, sitting at work at the mo :x . Whats the trails like in the area? Worth travelling for? Will the Yo be the weapon of choice then for Keilder?

Peaks are great and have a character all of their own. There are miles of routes and cracking scenery. They are busy places on fine day though- its right in between sheffield, leeds, Manchester etc and gets mucho tourists.
Youse will have to put it on your calender for next year, it was the good company that makes the Peaks ride one of the classic must do's.

As for the Yo and Kielder- not sure. Whilst the ride and speed where spot on the brakes were absolutley dire. They were about six times worse than the Klunker. On one steep decent I came around a corner into some rough stuff to find Mr K taking pics- he looked up and shouted 'Take your time!' I had actually had the brakes on full for the last half mile until my hands were screaming with pain- I was just getting faster and faster. I got around the corner but as it was steeper beyond I decided to get off the bike quick- I rolled down the hill with bike following behind right in front of the Peak District's official photographer

Hopefully its just the rims that need the ano wearing from but I'm not keen to be hitting race speed with those brakes.

Mark, I want the Maguras, I'll get the right hoses fitted when I fit them.

Kaiser, dont say you cant do CX then say you can do CX, now I need to come up with a better excuse for chickening out

Anyhoo hit GT today and did the blue repeatedly :D

Found a good short linking path from the second to last right hand bermed corner of spooky wood to the single track bermed descent of the blue route.
Did that bit twice, as good as Electric blue but more worn then did blue descent to freeride park, scooted around the easy bit of that then did electric blue twice :D

Rigid Alpinestars is really good and strangely really liking canti brakes at the moment, good modulation, no locked up wheels :D

So if I do Keilder its not the bike that will let me down.

Dr S, how can your brakes be worse than the Klunker, are the pads made of butter  Maybe your just too used to discs or vees.

Could be your girly grip, whatever you do don't go too poncy/limp wristed and fit V's on a Yo  You'd never live it down.

Is everyone up for mayhem next year or are the sSuk/worlds going to be the big invasion trip?

Old Mountain Bike World Champs will be the biggie next year. Had a chat with Mr K about it and its going to be a cracker.

Nice one V, do you stay on track to get to the blue bit or is it back to fire roads?

Oh and I'm currently in negotiations for the CX reckon I could do Auchentoshan, Dundee, Rounds 5+6 at Aviemore and Irvine :)

yeah that would be terrible, getting brakes that allow you to stay on your bike rather than walk downhill, while were at it, lets get back to solid rubber tyres too......

velo and Kaiser well in on getting out, no ride today as I was at a kiddies birthday party (I didn't have an invite but the security at these things is shocking ;) ), will go out first thing in the morning for a hour run.
