MacRetro chat and rides thread

Crikey, you lot have had a busy weekend.

Agree with Kaiser, baby blue and cream would be cool.

Off to have a look at kaisers new Yo.

Noice frame Kaiser dude. Will sort the paint for you if you like??

Right them my little lemmings.....

I have decided to re-run a route we did BITD several times. Its a 75 mile two day epic across the North Yorkshire Moors. Mainly off road and we start at 1100ft and drop to sea level. There is an overnight stay in the highest pub in the UK. Its a killer but fantastic with some great moorland singletrack and some awesome views finishing at the waters edge in Scarborough.
Plenty of time to get sorted- it will be in May 2010.

Who's man enough?

Holly cow  , not me either, unless i start training this second

Colour on the Bomber is a toughie :? , cant do Baby blue, did consider midnight blue and cream, Breezer thunder style, think i'm going to go back to the bronze/cream after looking at a 69 Charger which is bronze with a white vinyl top

I set off in 3 weeks time on the Great Glen Way - Same 75 miles but the first 40 are pretty much flat ;) -- Good luck Si, sounds like a tough one.

Typically my Hope BB bearings got wobbly this weekend on a training run - better than finding out half way up the glen though. They did last twice as long as the shimano ones.

Got a stem for the road bike, just need bars 1 shifter/brake:shock: and cables now. It will be ready just in time to be locked up for winter :)

Pentlands looked fun again Velo, really looks like the eastside is growing.

Kaiser, would these be all wrong for the Gazelle? What are they like for distance riding? (they are £20 posted, I think that is a good price)

£20 posted is alright, the problem is if you imagine the frame is designed for you to ride on the bars with your hands. Effectively fitting these your trying to ride on your elbows. This can cause all sorts of bother, for instance your hip angle becomes more acute, your torso is more stretched too. Ideally with tri bars your body shape forms a square (well 3 sides of one) when you fit tri bars to a road bike your body shape is more parralelogram if you follow. Tri bikes tend to have sorter toptubes and steeper seat tubes to help with this. Now this may be ok if the top tube is short enough and you can also fit an inline post to bring the seatting forward. They are all compromises though. As I say it can work out but generally to no aero advantage. If your still looking for a way round the 10 spd bit there are aero bars that are designed for road bikes (the cinellis aren't) Look at profile jammers/t2s/centurys or syntace do some. These have the elbow pads mounted behind the stem so its more your forearm on the bars, there also a bit above the bars too lessening the hip angle. These would allow you to fit bar end shifters with regular drops.

Hopefully some of this makes sense, but fire away with the q's :)

That's cheap i think but those things are mental. Tried tri-bars once and nearly killed meeself - couldn't get the hang of steering with elbows. Even more dangerous than spds   (which I now quite like  )

I've actually got a (right hand only ) 105 10spd shifter, so the cinellis would be a be a backward step, I just thought they looked cool   , I won't go for them if they are wrong for my style of bike.

My bike is a compact frame racer from what I have been told - popular in europe, I'm guessing it is a bit similar to the C2C frames most manufacturers make now.
