I'm cool either way though I was picturing heading off into wester ross theres also a trail called the wanlockhead gold rush which takes in lowther hill , no sure how far off the proposed route is.

I had a look over that way but it was too far from a decent bothy. I'm awaiting some digital mapping before finalising the route but it looks promising. Nice variety of terrain and surfaces and some good viewpoints. There are a few more bothies that i need to check out later, but from what i have seen so far this one has the better options for riding. Whats Ae forest like? its one of the ones i have been fancying for a while now.

Sounds great, not far to carry the beers and 30 miles should be very doable with the appropriate breaks for essential nutrients, help stave off the bonk

Not heard much from Jack for a while. Team England will be Myself, Gil_M, Young Mark and IanS from North Yorkshire.

I've been trying to check out a section of the route on Google Earth but can i hell see the track- it's just not there and looks to be heavy going over rough moorland. there is a shooting track just to the west should it prove impossible. What are the midges like at that time of year?

Drum's good but disnae really fall in with the bothy'in bit, ditto Ae. Is ther any more of the southern upland way we could do?

The tricky bit is making it circular so we can get back to cars etc. My thinking originally was for one route in and one out. but then i got to thinking about carrying 30-40lbs of kit and thought the circular route on the sat without a heavy load, pick up gear, short slog, good night of craic and single malt in the bothy and then a blast around an untried Trail Centre on the sunday would make for a canny weekend.
I think the big ride in- bothy- ride out thing will mean heading further north into the middle of haggis land and a longer weekend- probably best left for next spring and the longer daylight hours/ better weather etc.

Just my thinking, whats your thoughts mountain boy?
