like the bars . id be interested in knowing how the tensioner turns out . ive been thinking of using a similar one .

Tensioner works fine. I have used it on a few SS builds now with no trouble but it does get noisy when you get on gritty trails. I messed around with half links today but I could not get the magic spot. The tensioner does have an advantage though- I'm awaiting another sprocket, but I'm going to have the 32 up front and 16 and 12 on the back. If need to swap ratios its a half turn with an Allen key, slacken the chain off, swap it over onto the alternative sprocket and then tighten up the key. Very simple and makes life easier running SS- no spinning out on long decents or road sections. Practiced the change today and can do it in less than 15 seconds. Also looks much cleaner than a rear tensioner IMO

a rear derailleur would be even faster and less greasy. :) ...is it really single speed with 2 gear options?

I really like the bike, looks like you could really throw it about.

if you fit a nech you might as well fit a shifter and cassette to go with it. You also still get the chain clattering about with a mech and it gets full of crap too which kinda defeats the object really. Has anyone else tried the two cog back end before??

Si

Somebody must have liked the two cog rear because someone makes a two cog freewheel. Simpler to go for a double chainset surely !

Kaiser (and anyone else),

What are RS10 road wheels like? are they any good? I can get a set for £90 just now and wondered if they were worth that.

Couldn't tell you bud, shimano wheelsets in general though are ok but I think thats just it? I have a set of older but similar price point wheels (shimano) and had no problems, didn't exactly have the woo woo factor though.

great set of wheels Dr S love the wheels and the carbon forks mind you I did think it was pretty funky in it's modern geared clobber- good job and I like the saddle as is, why the flat pedals is that work bike mode?

Know where you are coming from with the 2 gears thang but spinning along on the road lets you chill out so I see it as an advantage :)

ken I have no knowledge on the wheels sorry mate but I do have a question myself for you folks.

The stumpie SS is a real pleasure to ride but does rear up on the very steep stuff and has flat bars which seems to give me a bit of neck ache after a while, will risers (without Bar Ends Kaiser  ) help with thes issues?

Ps thanks velo that bike is feckin awesome 8) 8) 8) 8)

I can't really see me getting the woo woo factor for this price, I could drop further to R500s (Tiagra level) for about £80 but I thought the RS10s would hold value longer till I can afford to sell them for something special.

I would think the riser would help with the backache but worsen the lift, a longer steeper stem might help both or a longer stem and riser bar.
