Project NeoRetro Cotic update...
Bit of progress today. Firstly the frame. Was going to paint it so took off the decal on the downtube to find another underneath, this one is laquered over :? Looks like they do them all with one design on them and when you order something different they slap it over the top. Anyhoo, this decal is Silver on a white panel which looks kinda nice and ties in with what I'm going to do with it so the paint is on hold for now.
Pressed in the headset (silver King) and then had fun mixing up the chemicals and stripped the anno off the seatpost, seat clamp and QR's. I have resisted polishing these up and have left them with a raw look. They do look nice against the yellow.
Bars are almost done, stripped off the anno and sanded them smooth before I brushed them and just need to blast the logos back on. New stem (silver Hope) and brakes (silver Hope X2 with silver mini floating buzz saw rotors) are on order as are the new cranks (silver Middleburn RS8 with silver spider and grey 32T ring). Ive ordered a Surley singlespeed kit and I'm now looking for some rigid forks. Just need a nice brown Brooks to chop up into something more racey and some brown grips and I can get it built. Wasn't aiming to do it but its turning into a bit of a Brit build I guess.
Going to try some amberwalls on it when built just to see if that works, but it might be a step too far.

Si, forgive me if I'm being a bit thick here but I thought you were dead set against single speed :?

Now your embracing it big style !

Looks good so far.

Also check out fleabay for other brooks type saddles, often many variations appear from the history of biking from manufacturers unheard of today.

I have flirted with single speed on and off over the last year. This bike was originally built as a singlespeed and my commuter is also singlespeed with a mighty 37/14 ratio

I rode this bike in Thrunton last week as a 1x9 and found myself in the same gear for 90% of the time. I also rode most of the night with the forks accidentally locked out so i figured that i might as well rebuild the bike and lose the 4-5 extra pounds that I am carrying around unnessarily and go back to basics. I'm going to try 32/15 ratio to start with and maybe go for 32/14

Forks are now sorted. I have gone for a Pace RC31 carbon fork- corrected length for this frame.

With all this road talk and getting to watch tour coverage live I was inspired to ride up to glasgow and back yesterday to do a few jobs. Went on the MF and got a few admiring comments as I locked her up 8)

However did realize a few minus points. The bike is no racer- indeed just slapping on some slicks does not make it a lightweight roadster  also found out that brooks made a few shite saddles as well, this one is for the gimp brigade.

That and the fact that the frame is a tad to small means it will be up for the chop very soon :(

Think I would need to ride a dedicated road bike if I did some serious mileage- Might get a shot on your spacebike one day kaiser but would need to get the full body suit to match non?

Whats your schedule like next week mate- I might ride down to your house and pick up the forks if it is convenient? would be cool to get the orange sorted for arran.

Oh yeah Dr you are bonkers retro-ing up the cotic. It looked cool as F, I'm sure it will look great but still think you are crazy

Gazz I'm backshift weekend then 2 nights, was possibly going to go to Arran on Monday for a recce :? but I'll see.

don't do that, that would be bonkers, spoil the surprise, how about getting a ride out somewhere that might be still dry- if such a place exists

what does backshift mean- remember I have never really been a member of the "working class" shifts are what you do in your car

 I'll be about in the mornings, though now I rememeber theres a gala/concert type thing and my house is pedestrian locked. Would you maybe be up for summat else on the Monday? I had kinda mentioned to the wife about doing something......

Klaus (must stop calling you Kaiser), could you find out who runs the long term carpark at Ardrossan Harbour and the charges. Web searches say that yes a secure carpark exists but no one seems prepared to say who the operator is and costs.

Train to Ardrossan is a pain, nothing gets there from Edinburgh before 1030 and so the plastic pig seems my only choice

Thanks

Stephen

Oh, also that DoobyDoo fellow who has appeared on the site is from Stevenston which is the neighboring town to yours i think ?
