so are you taking to the roads again yourself for sure? what about the sportives?

I'm going to tell you lot in here rather than my own section- which is full of tumbleweed  that I had an moment of blinding clarity the other night...... I worked out why I never get on with modern bikes. Because they are fugly!
They ride well but just don't have the cool looks of the old stuff. Still with me? Well I decided to take action and completely stripped the Cotic down to the frame and put ALL the bits up for sale!!

I'm going to start afresh with its build. Now, using a steel hardtail frame from 2009 how would you make it look 15 years older?? Anything goes- even repainting the frame is a possibility.

Am I just being silly?? Discuss...

no no no very sensible :) I started a thread about this many moons ago. My now worryingly long build of the Salsa started along those lines but I'm afraid has taken a turn for the modern  Was going to be XT thumbies and derailleurs retro cranks and early hope disc brakes. Any way it hasn't worked out so :? but thats another story. If you can build a bike using the best of all eras and make it gel in looks and performance your on to a winner :D

be a shame to lose that nice colour . its about time people made their new bikes look old

black and polished bits are timeless

making some stickers that look like they are older parts . putting older style rockshox stickers on a newer fork thus making it look older for instance

skinnier tyres

flat bars and bar ends . it is an early 90s look you want yeah ?

your stuck with discs arnt you on that frame ?

other than that oldish parts or newer parts that have the old looks . 5 bolt skinny cranks . skinny rims etc

you could lower the forks to dispense with the gap between the tyre and downtube but itl screw the geometry

8) :D I have rebas waiting for an overhaul and some lovely rock shox decals to go

Stephen, I still have one pair of those STX/RC V's. Remind me if you want them next time we meet.

I'm liking your thinkin'

I wasn't going to just clash old parts on it though. I'm thinking of taking new parts modded to look if not older but timeless. I'm gladly stuck with discs but these can be made to look cool and old skool- little CNC machined and polished calipers for example.
As a starter I got hold of some very wide Easton flat bars which I have stripped and refinished with a satin brushed finish. I'm going to sand blast the Easton logo back onto them.
I think I'm going to go singlespeed and with sus corrected rigid forks. I fancy getting a narrow brown Brooks saddle and have a go at hand cutting it into the same shape as a Flite too. 'whadda yerthink?
