are you making these places up ?

parker international = spiderman for the foreign market
ribble = clearly condoms , comeon im not falling for that one
planet x = hydroponics shop

I got some good deals from Total Cycling in ireland very quick service too.
http://www.totalcycling.com/

My LBS was best though with Ultegra SL cranks for 110 and rear Dery for 55, ebay was costing more for both those items new.

I scan ribble now and again, I will check out the others too.

set up as in? brifters or barends?

Yes, I really don't know what I want, I've always like simple light mechanics, whichs Brifters are not, but they might be better in day to day use.

I guess the main drive is the shape of the bars, I have some drops to play with but I think I might prefer something else, but not sure a tri set up would be right either.

barebackriders

Lovin the Klunk Jimi (and I'm sure CK would tell yer your bike has as much right to the name as any). I really really would run little discs on it though, they look cool on it. I like the bars on it too, looks balanced like that.

Gearing- don't be tempted to go too low on ratio. You will find that any length of uphill you will be off and pushing anyway. Another plus is that big heavy bikes and in particular heavy wheels carry a lot of kinetic energy and when they get going they get going if you know what I mean. Due to a worn cassette and a dicky front mech I did Dalby on mine (37lbs) with a choice of 52T and 38T front and choice of just 17T and 14T on the back which was fine.

If the bike fits a tri set up wouldn't be recommended. Brifters are the danglies for getting the miles in. Expensive though even for 105  ribble seems to have the best price.

Alright Klunk it is :D , i'm pleased with it so far, will probably go bigger with the bars though, i think the key things with the bike are big tyres, bars and saddle, will also be using big burly Gusset pedals, Kaiser mentioned old Stronglight cranks, may go for these eventually, going to use Gazz's old LX ones for now.

Really got my mind set on simplicity so committed to the drum brakes, discs would be nice but would'nt want a hose cabletied to the frame, nothing on the bars but two grips (maybe BMX ones) and a front brake lever.

Good point on the gearing, half the fun with the bike will be pushing/dragging it about  , may as well go for a decent size gear, your's certainly felt lively for 37lb, my frame is 4.5lb so predicting it to be low 30's maybe ?.

If you see me flying down Spooky wood on it Gazz it'll probably be the last time as i'll stove it and myself into a tree with the drum brakes on fire  , will definetely take it to Pollock park, maybe CV but may be limited to it's use.
