Where can I locate new rings, is it even possible to buy them these days?

Currently I seam to have 26t smallest and 48t largest.

Idealy I'd like to drop the smallest to 22 or so and the largest to 44/46 middle to around 34 I supose.
Thanks

22 smallest and 46 tallest is pretty risky unless you know exactly what you're doing. That's a difference of 24T

You need to keep into account that the rear mech has a limited capability. For most long cage mechs it's 43T.
If you have a 24T difference between the extremes at the front, that leaves only 19T difference at the back (43-24=19).
Most cassettes however have a 21 or 23T difference, which would push your total to 45 or 47T, or more than a long cage mech can handle.

Sure, you could ride it perfectly fine, but if you aren't careful and put it on too extreme of a gear, you run the risk of destroying the mech.

M900 cranks are 5-bolt, 110/74 B.C.D. On a 74mm BCD, the smallest ring you'd be able to fit is a 24t. See: http://sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-bcd.html

As for where to find chainrings, are you looking for genuine, period-correct Shimano rings? If so, you should look on eBay or similar and be prepared to pay quite a bit for NOS or near parts.

An Avid Microdapter 2 is legitimately retro, and lets you fit a 22t (or even a 20t) small ring to an M900 crank:

They pop up on eBay fairly frequently.

Genuine XTR rings are hard to come by, but there are many good alternatives on the market. I like Specialités TA. Ebay, the classifieds here, or a decent bike shop should give you a few options.
