Lycra

In the 80s when I belonged to a road cycling club, in the winter we all wore Beanbag tights and bright blue Sidi overshoes. Winter club runs and time trials looked like a pixie convention.

Re:

I think with Lycra you have to "wear it well"..no muffin tops hanging out  , On the other side if a person is wearing it and they feel comfortable ..great, my self I am 50 years old, 5' 8" and 13.5 stone, 1 stone overweight and carry that bit of tog around my middle{like most people do}. I wear endura baggies with lycra inners, one it more comfy and 2 need pockets on my shorts. I cycle every day 14 mile round trip to work rain, sun, snow, cold all weather. In the cold i wear bib tights and 3 layers. Also its worth to mention that some work places dont cater for employees to have showers and drying rooms for wet gear{I am fortunate..mine do}.So some people cycle to work in normal clothing. Yes as a kid i would knock around on my bike in jeans/doc marten boots..As you get older you want functional and comfort. As a shift worker getting up at 0415 hours twice a week {and not fully compesmentes }I have set off on my journey and thought about 3 miles in..f2ck me these are tight  , got to work and found that i have put them on back to front..looks impressive in front of the changing room{looking hung like a race horse}..but feeling a bit clip at the rear

Re:

Strangely enough I've recently reverted back from lycra padded shorts to just boxers and jeans for my commute (it's only 35 mins, mind).

The shorts are almost too padded in the b**lock region which was causing discomfort post-ride. I'd rather have a sore arse than sore teds.

When I do wear the shorts I always put them under another set of lightweight baggy shorts, purely because they don't go with my upper attire (bog standard baggy t-shirt or sweatshirt!)

I thought the article was completely inoffensive, and has been totally misconstrued by the press.
