Lycra

Re:

I'm over 8st and can confirm I look dreadful in lycra. Needs must though and its not like I wear it for anything other than cycling. But then I'm middle aged so any sporting kit looks awful on me. Was going to say except snooker but even then I just look like a tramp in half a suit.

Re:

I don't get offended by it. Lots of people find it more comfortable than the alternatives. When I commuted in London, and also rode for a living, I wore a variety of materials, mainly old baggy shorts.

These days I never ride more than a few miles without breaking it up with a little walking, looking around, etc. Just don't need performance cycle wear.

Tentatively stepping back onto road bikes, things might change.

Re:

I always wear it for riding, even for the 10 miles to work.

It's comfortable for the purpose, doesn't chafe and dries quickly. No brainer for me, at 12 stone. I think more than 8st is a bit harsh

I agree Mike, ridiculous comments actually; and I wonder if he was aiming that at women?

Never been less than 13 stone as an adult, and that was 'ripped'. I think I looked pretty good in whatever I wore.

Used to wear tight leggings under my shorts, often a silk mix or wool. The layering and movement addresses the same issues as Lycra does.
