LTS creak and click...

Ok, so my lts has started creaking and clicking when the suspension (back end) goes up n down...

Is this the old bushings (old...) or likely to be more sinister...

I inspected it, and I cant see any cracks in welds or otherwise, and Ive not been caning it (but am a fatty...)

Probably going to be the bushings. Pull everything to bits, clean it all, maybe a wee bit of grease on some of the potential metal-metal mating surfaces, then try it.

Ahh, memories of DH races in days gone by, when the sound of creaking, squeaking LTS-DHs filled the air...

Well my LTS DH s bushings are so shagged it rattles...

my LTS-DH is on original bushings, no play or creaks of any sort as it was little used


i jet washed it the other day and now it creaks and squeeks

hopefully a stripdon and grease will sort things out

I seem to remember that when my STS-DH stopped creaking, it was time to replace the bushings!

Pull it to pieces, clean and re-grease everything, reassemble.

If yours is a plastic trunnion mount, maksure that properly greased too.

The lower shock-mount bolt can bend also: roll it on a table to check if it's straight or not.

Check the bottom bracket housing - I had 2 frames that cracked around the thread due to running the factory-spec'd AC-chain device (Didn't leave enough thread in the frame).

Grease it up.

If it still makes a noise, then your bushings are shot.

My RTS creaked, but after greasing it up the noise stopped.

You may be lucky.

They all creak eventually.A right pain and the reason I got rid of mine.Very embarassing

This looks to have happened on the one I've just acquired - interesting to hear it's not a one-off. I'm currently trying to source a new sleeve that goes over the bolt, as that's a bit bendy, as well as the bolt.

Stripping the entire thing down for a clean and re-grease wasn't anywhere near as technical as I expected it to be. Can see it being a reasonably easy job now I know how it all actually comes apart.

LTS

My LTS only creaks on the other side of a stream crossing or the like - but it only gets ridden on heavy peat soils. I'd imagine any LTS that came into contact with the sandy stuff I ride in the SE would get pretty noisy.

Strip the bushings down and clean em - go easy on the grease though, it only holds the grit and dirt. Alternatively, take the pain and buy a full new bearing kit from BETD. (Running about £140 these days :evil: )
