Looking 4 history of Off Road 552 or the company in general

off-road-552

Dirt Disciple
Hi everyone, I acquired an Off Road ProFlex 552 a year or so ago and was wondering if anyone had any information on it. I have only ever seen one Off Road in real life and it was a 772 (I think). Any information on the bike would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re:

Prior to Proflex the company was called Off-road and before that it was called KG Engineering. Run by a guy called Bob Girvin who's name appears on the side of the Flex-stem. After Proflex came K2 and then bankruptcy I think. There's always good info on MOMBAT and there is a pile on here if you search:

Some good articles here:

There's a load of Proflex bikes on here as well.

Re:

Excellent! I really didn't think anyone would reply, especially within an hour!

Many thanks for the info, yours is lovely, i wouldn't dare ride it if it was mine. I shall post some pictures of mine tomorrow if interested in seeing, i tried already but the file size is too big so need an appropriate program to shrink.

Have read the articles and checked out Mombat, didn't know you could obtain the original articles, would love to see one for all of the models including mine.

Thanks again.

Helo brian , welcome btw

There's an FAQ section at the bottom of the main page , there's threads about posting pics , basically use a pic hosting site like photobucket etc , then img link it

I'd like to see your bike as I'm shure others would

Re:

Hello Mike, are you referring to me as Brian? My name is James.

Thanks for the help on how to post pictures, I have signed up to PhotoBucket and have copied the direct link to each picture.

Deore LX throughout, Specialized saddle, Race Face handlebars, RockShox forks (need servicing).

Let me know if you receive the pictures.

That's nice , how's the elastomers ?

Mike

Btw if you don't leave a name you get called brian till you let us know

Re:

Haha OK I see.

The elastomers are good, the bike doesn't feel like it's had much use. Everything is tight.

Do you have a ProFlex?

Cheers.

James (Brian).

What is the story with the rear suspension? I dont recall any bikes fitted with springs but with yellow elastomers, that i would expect to act as dampers. The later longer travel units had a damper inside the elastomer ' doughnuts', does your bike ( or brians?) have a damper?

Are you able to take a close up photo of the rear suspension and is there a damper fitted?

Re:

Mike...I told you the elastomers were ok, I think I know what they are and how would they work but where are they located? My rear suspension appears to be a coil spring but no elastomers.

02gf74, you have just got me thinking. I know they are is an elastomer on the stem which as you said acts as a damper but from what I can see, there is just a spring for the rear. I can provide a couple of pictures in the morning if it helps.

Cheers.
