Lightweight XC fork

The problem with modernish forks is: 1. good luck finding one with V-Brake mounts, 2. good luck finding one that's light (most Rebas are kinda heavy). That SID worldcup does tick all the boxes. It's funny how the first generation of superlight forks weighed around 1200 grams, nowadays a fork in the 1700 grams range is considered superlight. I know that the modern forks have more travel, better damping, are stiffer and so on but come on... one would think with all the composite material advancements in the last years, the manufacturers would be able to retain function while building a fork in the 1300 grams range. (exotica like Lauf or German A Kilo excluded)

Fox F80 or F100, either in RL or X form, would be ideal. Very nice light forks that should be readily available in v-brake form.

A pair just sold on eBay for £40; but if you can find a set of Manitou Skareb Elite's you'd be pretty well set. (~1400g)
Either that or a set of older Magura Odur/Durin 100's (~1700g/1600g) with v-mounts - but these seem to be shooting up in price nowadays. Not as light, but insanely reliable.

Re:

Thanks for all the suggestions lads, food for thought. As for switching to disc, that isnt an option or in keeping with the bike`s style as Im running Crossmax ceramics and a full M970 v brake set up  and thats staying.....

I have a set of rst xmo air forks. They are lighter and stiffer than the sids of the same era and much cheaper.

Pace are a good call, I've got a set of rc38 air force 2 forks in minty condition.

Both probably a little older than your year range.

Fox forks of that era, air of course, are very good bur seem to command a good price, as do pace. Rebas are very good forks but v versions are hard to come by at a reasonable price these days.

I've heard that rock shox tora forks are good value but never had a pair myself.

Lots of choice in theory, in practice though, finding a good set, especially with v brakes is another matter. I'm after some reba lowers with v bosses and am in it for the long haul I think.
