The whole idea is to increase chain wrap/ reduce slip.

Well, quite. That's why pushing-up is better. Lots of these bikes seem to have more chain than strictly necessary, tensioners hanging down at funny angles and chain running on about a quarter of the sprocket ;-)

i can see your point, i tryed every combination with my set up and ended up with the tensioner becouse it worked, can i run a half link on a normal chain? or would it be better to get a half link chain? i tryed to not use the tensioner as the gear hanger thread has been stripped out and im using a female bolt thing

You can run a half link on a regular chain.

There is also a BB mount tensioner, although I still like the no tensioner look better if I had a choice.
